What is PBIS?
At Williamsport Elementary, we use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to help students grow socially and academically. PBIS teaches clear expectations, encourages positive choices, and responds to behavior in a respectful, supportive way.
Our School Expectations
All students are taught to be:
- Respectful
- Responsible
- Fair
- Honest
These expectations are taught and practiced in all school settings such as the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, and playground. Teachers review and reteach expectations throughout the year to help students understand what these behaviors look and sound like.
How We Recognize Positive Behavior
We celebrate students for making great choices through several systems:
- Students earn Willie Bucks when they follow rules and show positive behavior.
- Students can shop in Willie’s Classroom Store using their Willie Bucks for small prizes or reward passes such as bringing a stuffed animal or eating lunch with a friend.
- Teachers also write Positive Referrals to recognize students who go above and beyond.
- All students participate in Monthly Celebrations—fun, school-wide events that build community and reward positive behavior.
How We Support Behavior Challenges
Our discipline approach is proactive, instructive, and restorative. Staff reteach expectations, use calm, respectful language, and offer tools like the Calm Corner to help students regulate emotions. When behavior affects others, we use restorative conversations to repair harm and rebuild relationships. If needed, consequences are related, respectful, and reasonable—such as apologizing or losing a connected privilege. Families are informed and involved every step of the way.
How We Track and Respond to Behavior
Staff use two types of behavior forms.
- A Minor Incident Report is used when a behavior needs correction but doesn’t require help from an administrator. It helps students understand their actions and learn from the situation.
- An Office Referral is used for serious, repeated, or unsafe behavior and is handled by an administrator.

Monthly Celebrations
Each month on the two hour early dismissal days, students & staff celebrate positive behavior & learning through shared experiences such as game play, STEM challenges, arts & crafts, & music.
Celebrations will also be posted on the school calendar.
